Design

4.021 (How to Design) introduces fundamental principles to demystify design and provide a basic introduction to all aspects of the design process. Students develop skills of creativity, abstract thinking, representation, iteration, and design development. In this class, I was tasked with designing "A Light..." with specific properties.

Design Concept

Typically, pulling a string simply turns a light on or off instantly. In this project, I proposed a two-sided light that can shine upwards or downwards, providing directional lighting for reading or atmosphere. Rather than an on/off switch, pulling the string controls the lighting direction continuously between up and down.
